My depression around my stoma is at the bottom and both sides. Hernia is at the top. I now use a coloplast or salts ring rolled into a worm shape. My wear time is not good lately. Should I use a full convex ring or try to double up at the depression. I think if I double up, my stoma will drain under the ring as it is shorter at one side. Help please?
There are many reasons why the profile of an abdomen will change, such as weight loss, weight gain, and aging process, to name a few. Ostomy equipment that has worked very well in the past, may now need to be reassessed and equipment changes made. An Enterostomal Therapy (ET) Nurse who can provide you with an expert visual examination is your best option for properly assessing the stoma, peristomal skin, abdominal profile, and recommend ostomy equipment options.
There are many reasons why you would be seen by an ET Nurse:
- Are you suddenly getting less wear-time of your pouching system?
- Have you gained or lost weight?
- Does your flange “not stick” to your skin?
- Has the shape or size of your stoma changed since surgery?
